Using a Passport as Proof of Citizenship

Expired Passports can be used as proof of Citizenship If:

They not considered damaged-The AA can help determine if the passport is damaged*

Note about limited passports: If the passport was originally issued as a limited passport (valid for 3 months to a year only) then it must have been extended by the Department of State to its full term of validity. If the passport was limited and never extended then it cannot be used as proof of citizenship.

*Passports with ripped visa pages, ripped bindings, badly peeled laminate, extremely weathered pages or covers, etc. will probably be considered "damaged".
